Delights: November 18 to 24

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. I have so much to be thankful for: my beloved family gathered around our festive table today, my dear family in New Jersey and Iowa, friends around the world (and celebrating with us today), and a life with generosity, courage, faithfulness and purpose.

I’m grateful for comfort and hope in times of deep sadness. I’m grateful for difficult things that challenge my confidence, ability and complacency. I’m grateful for people who serve and sacrifice. I’m grateful for creative, kind people who enliven our world. And, if you’re reading this, I’m grateful for you. (Actually, I’m grateful for you even if you’re not.)

Thank you, friends, who have sent me photos over the past year. Here are a few of my favorites.

And, of course, my favorite photographer, my husband, Kevin Ogle. Love you!

Thank you, Barbara. Although I am wary of all kitchen things, I do truly love the planning, execution and clean-up for Thanksgiving dinner (and, yes, the gathering of friends and family!). I was filled with gratitude. Thank you for sharing it with me.

Thank you, Laurie. Your encouragement matters so much! And — happy day! — I ordered your complete Great Library series from my local bookstore. I am looking forward to cozy evenings in front of the fire…. And so our beautiful web of nurturing and enriching each other continues!

It sounds like you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with friends and family. I love all the photos you shared. But I really loved one sentence particularly: I’m thankful for difficult things that challenge my confidence, ability and complacency. That is a wonderful way to look at difficult things. I shall remember that. Thank you.

Hello, friend. Thank you for saying hello and for noticing that sentence; I am glad to re-explore that insight. Sharing it with you may help me to remember that difficult kind of gratitude!

And thank you for appreciating my friends’ (and husband’s) photos. They are truly lovely.
